Ep 18: "Fallen Star Pt 8"

Hello, and welcome to the Queens of Nerdom podcast. I am Tay, and I play Melody in our first RPG or role playing game. This is not a Dungeons and Dragons, but a homebrew game created by our very own doctor Awesome, aka Eric, who is our game master. This takes place in the world of Sariva, and we are currently playing act 1 fallen star. Stay tuned to hear what other mysteries lie ahead in the city for our poor unfortunate souls.

Mac (Dolion):

So we're aware where the prisoners are at, correct? Yes. I'm still staying in the shadows, correct? Stalk and I yeah. Is there anything I can roll to see what the Fallen Gods' awareness is?

Mac (Dolion):

Because if I skip across that way, is she gonna be like, who the fuck is this? It's go time.

Eric (Dr. Awesome):

Mac (Dolion):

Eric (Dr. Awesome):

Okay. Excellent. Alright. So I don't know if it can it is, very apparent, like you could see the energy here or not that's supposed to be conveyed here on the map. Uh-huh.

Eric (Dr. Awesome):

It's kind of glow. This star has walked into there, and it's a portal that's opened, and you can see other snake people coming to that portal from the other side. Okay. So the the the elder god or the fallen god, dark god, whatever you wanna call it from, you know, the elder gods, is is very focused on that right now. Okay.

Eric (Dr. Awesome):

As far as its its minions are, they're kinda watching, but you do see that probably they're going to make their way. Because what did the snake man mention? He had mentioned that in order for the portal to work, they need to send use human blood Right. Lets them bring their people over. So they're probably different, not just yeah.

Eric (Dr. Awesome):

So they're gonna go after the prisoners because that's what's gonna allow the portal to stay open. So this group is probably moving to go get the prisoners while Vistar is opening the portal. So at this moment, these 4 are gonna probably be entering here to take the prisoners over to Vistar or these 5. These are probably heading in the same direction. So sooner or later, everybody's gonna converge here, but Vistar is still paying attention into the portal, if that makes sense.

Mac (Dolion):

This star is not focused on me, but the chances of the other members notice in me is is would be high.

Jenn (Mara):

So And

Eric (Dr. Awesome):

they're going to notice eventually. So your window to get in there and get them is running down is getting smaller.

Jenn (Mara):

Kately (Machitis):

anybody distract them? Sorry, Jen. Go ahead.

Jenn (Mara):

I was I was asking, can anybody can we distract them? If they're gonna notice him eventually, and our goal is to get them out, we may have to risk being safe.

Mac (Dolion):

Once they're alerted, I'm I'm assuming their priority is to protect the sacrifices so they can get the the thing. So once they're alerted, they will probably most of them will probably try and go secure the prisoners, and then the others will try to take you out. And they may holler at, the fallen god, and then it's a problem. You know what I'm saying?

Kately (Machitis):

Right. So we don't wanna go that route.

Mac (Dolion):

I can head over there. I don't know what their life points are at, but depending on roles, I have 4. I I could probably take 4 of them out, if not all 4, like at least 2, I would assume. And then I know Jer is after me, and I don't know if he can follow-up and and take out the stragglers of the god the the ones kinda closer to the prisoners. If the oh my god.

Mac (Dolion):

Eric (Dr. Awesome):

Jenn (Mara):

So can I tell if Vistar is on this plane or in another dimension based on the portal that she is standing in?

Eric (Dr. Awesome):

Oh, I missed 2250 experience points to, Dolion and Machidis for the planning there, and, excellent question, Mara. 500 experience points. This star, when they're she's at she, he, whatever, is at the portal, they're technically not in this plane. So what does that mean as far as Vistar noticing you?

Jenn (Mara):

She's not in this realm, so she's not really gonna see us.

Eric (Dr. Awesome):

Jenn (Mara):

So do I see any enemies

Eric (Dr. Awesome):

on the screen right now are are the only ones that are gonna play a huge factor. So the quicker you mop them up, the better your situation will be because it will just increase. The numbers will continue to increase the longer you take.

Mac (Dolion):

I'm headed to the presenters.

Eric (Dr. Awesome):

Kately (Machitis):

So go ahead, Jer. In terms of, blood needed for the portal, they need you and blood. Right?

Eric (Dr. Awesome):

Kately (Machitis):

Does it need to be put into the portal, or it's just, like, in this room?

Eric (Dr. Awesome):

Kately (Machitis):

So how many human enemies are here near the portal?

Eric (Dr. Awesome):

None. Okay. So the creature you see on the other side of the portal isn't gonna be able to come through until the blood of one of these prisoners is spilled over there.

Kately (Machitis):

I'm just saying I don't wanna kill anyone

Eric (Dr. Awesome):

Then it will come through.

Kately (Machitis):

And then sets it off prematurely.

Eric (Dr. Awesome):

Oh, yeah. Good point. 500 experience points. The regular cultist guys, you don't wanna kill them near the portal because they're human. They just worship this star.

Eric (Dr. Awesome):

Now the snake What's the rainbow? So they're they're already from that dimension. It doesn't play for them, but you don't wanna kill the cultists. The one that father brother Phalen brought brought under his wing. They all serve him and and Vistar, but they're human.

Mac (Dolion):

Mac (Dolion):

To get it, but So like, why do you need prisoners when you got human people Right. To do your bidding.

Jenn (Mara):

So so can I can I roll my enchantment Will we be and see if I can figure out if the the rocks on the floor and the pillars there have any significance and if they're broken, if it can affect the portal?

Eric (Dr. Awesome):

They're already broken. It's not the temple so much as the, the temple itself is the location. Does that make like

Jenn (Mara):

Eric (Dr. Awesome):

Yeah. Like, I don't know if you picked up on it, but in the sewer, you guys are passing by a lot of crystals that are basically magic gems in the making. When the the streams of magic pass over a spot long enough, like, it's not visible to most people, but the energy's constantly flowing around the world. When they hit us they pass a certain spot over and over again. Think of it like wind through the Grand Canyon.

Eric (Dr. Awesome):

It goes against a certain spot on the wall long enough. That spot starts to pick up parts of that magic stream. So in the sewer, you guys are coming across stuff that is attached to the stone and, plant ring of magic. That's why all those greens green gems were starting to flourish. So lines of magic energy are passing through here.

Eric (Dr. Awesome):

That's why they chose this spot. But you see, the temple's almost all destroyed already anyway. They just needed the location, not the temple.

Kately (Machitis):

Okay. So question. Vistar is not on this realm if the portal was active.

Eric (Dr. Awesome):

Right? Yeah. Right now. They're not technically her her or him. Their mental state is not in this realm.

Eric (Dr. Awesome):

Kately (Machitis):

Is there any way that they can communicate, the cultists can communicate to Vistar to bring them on this plane or no? Is there any way that they can their mental state can be on this plane? Because they're not.

Jenn (Mara):

Jenn (Mara):

Because, look, she's like a a upper tier, like older god and she's letting like a a mil to me, like a middle tier god go through like that cobra that looks like it's getting ready to come through if it has, like, a sacrifice or some shit. Do you know what I mean?

Eric (Dr. Awesome):

So it almost seems like she's, like, helping holding the the the portal open to let, like, the middle tier kind of

Eric (Dr. Awesome):

She's answering the door trying to bring the pizza in. She's making sure everybody else go grab some cash so I can give it to the pizza delivery

Jenn (Mara):

Jenn (Mara):

So that means we're gonna have to fight this bitch nor or what?

Kately (Machitis):

She's kinda groggy, so she doesn't recognize that someone's there for a second. She probably thinks you're just, like, another cultist or whatever. But as soon as she recognizes you, she kinda, like, comes, you know, more aware. And, she moves up to where her her chains will let her move a little bit, and she kinda motions for you to get behind her.

Mac (Dolion):

They're both, so, when when, Alina sits here, it she seems like she's almost able to, make you unseen by them when they come, even though you're using stealth and stuff too. So whatever the situation is, she's made it to where they don't they they won't see you as well. So even more of a a boost to the to the stealth. So this guy comes and starts trying to unchain,

Kately (Machitis):

Eric (Dr. Awesome):

Alina tells you she can take out one of them, but you'll have to do the rest.

Mac (Dolion):

Do your thing, boo, and, just, I'm will you I'm still undetected by all 4 of these dudes. Right? So she'll take out 1.

Eric (Dr. Awesome):

Eric (Dr. Awesome):

Okay? The portal, like, shuts down in, like, almost like a blast of energy that throws many of the others so hard it kills certain parts of her of her followers. So, this star is on the ground, waking.

Jenn (Mara):

Eric (Dr. Awesome):

Alright. So, you're this star is lying on the ground, waking, and you noticed that it's as she's holding her chest and stuff, she's ripping it apart. You notice that, human body falls out, and it's you guys can recognize it as brother Phalen from the other night, the priest. Right? That's what's anchoring her to this realm.

Jenn (Mara):

Eric (Dr. Awesome):

But she loses her godly stature, and she reverts in size to a much smaller form as you could see. She, the energy's blasting off has killed part of her people, but it's also ripping apart her body. And, it seems like whatever the from the center of her chest, like, almost like you would say her soul is coming out and going into the sword that Jir is holding. And it's like a it almost seems like a the best comparison would be like the it takes a lot. It looks like Jir has to use his strength and, will to stand there, like it's it's actually sliding him slightly as the power is coming into his sword.

Eric (Dr. Awesome):

Damn. But the shock waves are being sent through the whole area. That mercenary that you guys fought earlier gets thrown in the wall, but he's still alive, and he's looks like he's trying to make his escape. The snake men seem to be dying like they're falling apart because their link to this world is is failed.

Jenn (Mara):

Eric (Dr. Awesome):

Jer seems, like, totally focused at the moment, and, you're helping him, like, kind of behind him, supporting as he it's pushing him and sliding, but he seems to stop sliding and walks forward. The same energy that seems to be going into his into the the sword that he has is also, the it's hard to where the cross guard of the weapon and the hilt, The your heft and the cross guard meet where the blade comes.

Eric (Dr. Awesome):

Right in the center, there seems to be emanating a different sort of energy, and it matches Jarrah's eyes as Jarrah moves over and plunges the blade straight through Vistar's chest into his back. Alright? And Vistar starts to just basically fall into ash, and, really, the only thing left is, brother Phelan's kinda desiccated form. So, Vistar is toast, and, you all are standing there. The portal's closed, and you guys have your your the prisoners, so you're in a good good situation.

Eric (Dr. Awesome):

Cool. The place is empty as, the that mercenary guy takes off.

Mac (Dolion):

Eric (Dr. Awesome):

Jenn (Mara):

Eric (Dr. Awesome):

There's a lack of other powers now. Those elder gods that existed ages before any of your history have a chance at returning. The other gods have fallen. There are no more gods to stop them, so their return is imminent. Vistar was just one of many.

Eric (Dr. Awesome):

They will come now now that you have no more sisters of the sky, sister of the the of the fires. You have no more Corellian god of war. You have no more Thor and the mighty. It is all gone now. Mankind is weak and alone.

Eric (Dr. Awesome):

Kately (Machitis):

Eric (Dr. Awesome):

Alright? The second is Lordran. Alright? He was the set the king of the Seraphim. Okay?

Eric (Dr. Awesome):

The most powerful warrior angel. Out of those 2 angels that were cast, those are the only 2 that have survived their their war that were cast out. When Lordran was defeated, he was imprisoned in the moon of Jerai. Okay? So every so many years, there's the fire moon, and the 3rd moon, the moon of Jarai, gets hit by a bunch of comets, and it looks like it's on fire.

Eric (Dr. Awesome):

That that's the only time that Lordran is able to possibly leave there. That's not gonna happen again for probably another 500 years. Okay? Decimus was cast down like like Satan. Okay.

It takes a little bit walking around, but you're able to find that, some of these come back out because you gotta think people were coming down here to worship, so not all the people coming down to worship would do well having to fight through everything you did to get here. So the average person wouldn't have been doing that. So they had another way, it that it brings you guys out towards the square that you guys were originally at, giving you guys a chance to walk over and kind of wash up near the, blacksmith's thing.

Because right now on this area of the city, you guys do see what looks to be dark clouds and mostly fueled by, smoke and dust. So, it'd probably be good if I shared this with you.

It's very deserted. You see maybe a few people walking around. Even the livestock's been kinda taken and put in away. You see the occasional soldier.

Some of them slow when they see you guys over near the blacksmith's place washing up, but it looks like they're too busy to really give a shit, so they're just moving along. All of its imperial forces, though, their imperial alliance, they have the red and gold for the most part. See a lot of a a lot of, new recruit looking guys. I mean, their their equipment and everything kinda gives that away. Yeah.

Eric (Dr. Awesome):

That's nice, but it is it's so brand new. You could tell it's never really seen any kind of battle. Whatever's on the horizon to your guys east that's headed in this way is, was, it's gotta be a pretty large force in order to kick up so much dust to black out the sky in that direction. So, whatever you heard from the town crier that first night at the festival, some of it must have been true because, it's it's it's here. So, barring that you guys wanna head to the east eventually, you're gonna have to find an alternate route, like I said.

Eric (Dr. Awesome):

You could always try to head up to Shadows Bluff and then catch an airship or go out to the ocean and see, you know, off of Lochmore, see if there's any ships anchored that give you guys passive. So right now though, you guys have gotten a little bit of rest. We're able to salvage some of your the food and stuff that was purchased before from Melody, I guess, even though she left, she left you guys a little bit of those that food so you could eat. Hamburg. And you're sitting there.

Eric (Dr. Awesome):

But coming out from the graveyard area over near the Hori temple, you do see the guy whose stuff you guys took, the, old knight or the old old alliance armor knight, and Genjiro walking, out of the graveyard here.

This is gonna sound crazy. But, after we buried my friends, there is a friend I couldn't find. Last I had heard he died at a at a a farmstead not too far from here. When we went to find him, we could not find his body, but I met I met a woman who said that she was the goddess of disguise, goddess of the the heavens or whatever. Said her name she said she was Ariana, basically one of the 4 sisters.

Eric (Dr. Awesome):

It's like an angel. And she told me that I would stay here and she's the one that passed on my burden when I swore my oath. She said, swear to me that you will stay in these lands and not leave no further than a a day's travel from Balanford until the key of light returns. And then she said it's the least I can do, you know, and it'll help make amends for for my failures. So I I swore.

Eric (Dr. Awesome):

So I've been here ever since. But, now it seems like I feel like I'm drawn to go towards the mountains, but now there's a frigging army of monsters outside the castle. So I guess I've gotta go through that. There might be more trials and tribulations, but, I'm to head east, I guess, is what I feel. And it's almost like I feel that she's out there.

Mac (Dolion):

Did she tell you what your what's the consequence of moving more than a day from Ballinford?

Eric (Dr. Awesome):

I've tried. I was extremely drunk, and I headed to try to get to Gedrin Falls because I I have more than enough money. I cumulatively did that over the years, but I was like, Gedron Falls is much nicer than Ballinford, Much nicer. So I was tired of sitting in Gedron Falls. It had been, like, years.

Eric (Dr. Awesome):

So I hired a coach. It got me as far as the serenian road north to the the bridge to Gendard Falls, and then when I fell asleep, I was back here in Ballinford. I can't even draw my weapon if I'm further than a day from here. It won't that burden you feel, the weight of it, it's intensified if I leave outside of a dave here. I can't even draw it to fight.

Eric (Dr. Awesome):

And he's like, I actually came looking for you all with a kitchen knife because that's all I can but he's like, at least with that, I was able to move around. He's like, when I fight with this sword, unless it seems to be in service of my oath, the sword feels like it weighs like a ton. So it's like, honestly, I haven't had much of a life for the last 20 years. So if my if through my life, what's left of it, I'm able to help, especially now that I see that the duchess's daughter has come of age, and she wants to try to bring things back as foolish as it seems. I believe in them more than I believe in the Imperial Alliance.

There's only a couple times where guards look over in the other direction, but when they see when they see Landon, they kinda hesitate or like you've seen before, where they know his reputation. If he is to wield the sword, he is extremely deadly. So they they kinda just, you know, back off or they respect enough of his status

So you guys moved through there, pretty pretty quietly and whatever, without without instant. So as you guys proceed out to this area, you've come you've come through an area that was mostly boarded up and defended, but the soldiers at least moved some of the wagons so you could get through. There's no livestock or horses to get you there, so you actually had to walk. It was about 4 miles.

Jenn (Mara):

Some of it's, gnolls or jackalman. There's part of a head of a Minotaur. Every it's all laying around in pieces. Splintered trees, medium sized trees that look like they got just just obliterated. Closer to the river's edge, you do see a gentleman who's standing with his back towards you guys, but, he's holding something in his left hand, and he kinda points off with his right.

Eric (Dr. Awesome):

And when he does that, bats that are about this, like, the size of people, 3 of them just take off into the sky. They were in the trees nearby that you guys couldn't even tell if they were there. But they dart off into the sky and the guy standing over near the river's edge, and he says, good of you not to keep me waiting, daughter. I will get his peak short.

You didn't draw it, but immediately you're kinda looking around. Behind you, there's movement from the brush that, a large hairy beast is in the bushes, but it backs off when he puts his hand up like that. I mean, you can hear the dripping from its mouth like the Right. The drool and stuff. But it backs up and he steps forward from the riverbed and, you know, does a sort of slight bow as he casts his cape around his side.

Eric (Dr. Awesome):

And he says, I rule from the lands to the south. Vaughn Castle is my domain. This is my daughter, and I asked for us to meet. But you 2 are welcome because I see that you guys have shared in battle together, spilled blood together, and I hold that very high as an honor. Look at the greater picture. Some of those with you are unable to see that picture. But you will not have all of these people to rely on at all times unless there's some sort of bond I don't know about growing. Whatever else befalls the planet, he really doesn't seem to give a shit. But he wants to at least be able to take the throne, because I mean as far as you know the Vexian Empire, the only one powerful enough that's sticking around is him to take the throne, but he's talking about someone outside of that coming. And if they come, what you guys have recently learned, they could be another one of these elder gods or service servants of the this hymn, and, that could really throw throw things for shit.

So, lesser of 2 evils, Raul is lesser of 2 evils when it comes to the vaccine empire, but, his concern of mankind is non existent. You're their food. But

got the you've you've got the amulet, so hopefully you gained some clues on what he said. The amulet and the key work together. Both of them have great power. One's a guide, one's the actual, you know, tool or necessity. But, he obviously has already been watching a lot because he seems to know about Jerry and he knows about some of your other members.

Eric (Dr. Awesome):

But he doesn't have a whole lot of faith in melody. So call that as you wish. He feels she has a lot of power that if he just killed her and drank of her power, be a lot more useful. Alright. Anything else?

Well, I I think we should stop here because you're gonna have to start thinking about if you guys are gonna be leaving this city and as a group. Because, trying to get everybody together again if you're outside the city is gonna be difficult. It's hard enough to get, Machidis back with you guys. He's about to leave the city.

so what do you guys think should be done? I mean, I wanna kinda pick a spot where we can get you guys all in a a good stopping point, and I could just have them meet up with you however.

Yeah. MPC is coming and going. I mean, wouldn't count on them sticking around, but, some of them play parts in your guys' past or your backstory. So of course, those characters will be seen again. The MPC list is gonna expand.

I'm gonna resend that to you guys with new characters that are gonna be added on, so you can just kinda add that sheet to the sheets you already have. The one good thing is try to keep track of that MPC sheet. Some of them are dead, but they may hold clues. Some of the other

Yeah. But, no. I thought it went well, especially after we could get everybody together. You know, there was some some hard part hard portions and hard rolls, but it all balanced out. I mean, I think now, the next time we get to on 9th, we should definitely look at some of the upgrades and stuff for your characters that you might be interested in.

Jenn (Mara):

Eric (Dr. Awesome):

Anything you're not certain about doing, you can you know, we can do that. If you just wanna raise levels, you get I sent I think I sent that to you, Willie, and it's just a list of how to how to upgrade your character.

Kately (Machitis):

Yeah.

Eric (Dr. Awesome):

If you're uncertain about other stuff, you can at least raise levels because you as you see some of your skills and so forth bounce off of what level you are. You know? And your EPMP goes up, your life force goes up. So, if it's other more important things that you wanna do, like gain skills and stuff, it's gonna be good if the next time we get together, we have, everybody get a chance to kinda go into that and say, hey. I'd like to do this, or I've saved some of this experience to do this.

Eric (Dr. Awesome):

And we could just, you know, get in get there and get that done before we start we start rolling in the story. So

Jenn (Mara):

Okay. We can always, have a upgrade your character session. Like, it it it doesn't even have to be, like, majority of the people, like, we can always, like, get on here. And if if anybody needs help, then we can kind of guide you. But, I mean, ultimately, like, it's your character.

Eric (Dr. Awesome):

Yeah.

Jenn (Mara):

You can upgrade them as you will. We, you know, like, we're here just to make, like, suggestions and whatnot.

Eric (Dr. Awesome):

No. I think that I think that, everybody's got their direction or especially out of u three, you seem to have your you know, I feel like Willie knows what he wants and how he wants his guy to be played. So he's gonna be and I know, you know, Joe and you both have done it before, so it's kinda just building the direction you want. I feel like, with Machitus, it's or Black's gonna take some time. He has to get more familiar with his dude.

Eric (Dr. Awesome):

And I think that'll swing him along.

Mac (Dolion):

I think if he just prints it out and kind of puts it in a a notebook Yeah. Right there because he kept, you know, trying to it's good he has the the stuff on the laptop or whatnot, but trying to click through it and and scroll through, but, yeah. I I I think that, you know, once he gets that down, it'll it'll be a bit more fluid.

Eric (Dr. Awesome):

Yeah. I may look over some of, Melody's stuff too to try to give her some heads up on ideas of, branching out to other skills that she might have that she's not seeing, attack wise and whatnot. You know, I don't want her to feel like all she's there for is to just buff people. Right. She she can't actually I mean, she can actually hold her own.

Eric (Dr. Awesome):

I mean, maybe not, like, in as big of fights as you guys had tonight. You guys had some pretty major hit, fight tonight. So

Mac (Dolion):
